Dream Eyes Contacts

I was asked by Dream Eyes, http://www.dreameyes.com/ ,  to review a pair of their contacts. I immediately jumped at the chance to try them out because I’m always looking for good theatrical contacts to wear with my costumes. I’m always having trouble with contacts because of my astigmatism and dry eyes which make wearing them usually very painful. Also I have dark brown eyes that usually show through to the point where you can’t even tell I have any on.
The first thing I noticed about the Party Contacts Lenses, http://www.dreameyes.com/fashion-contact-lenses/party-contact-lenses , was the size. They are a larger, circle lens that go beyond the natural iris thus giving the eye a cartoon look. I thought they would be harder to put in but they were actually one of the easiest I’ve ever applied. At first, I used an eye lubricant so they would be nice and moist. Then I inserted the contacts and they went right in. Once they settled they were very comfortable to wear.
The contacts I selected were the Galaxy Violet Contact Lenses, http://www.dreameyes.com/party-contact-lenses/galaxy-violet-contact-lenses . They are a lilac circle lens with a sparkle design around the edges. The pupil was larger then my actual eye so you could see a ring of brown in the center. Also, while the purple showed up in flash pictures or up close it was a bit harder to see otherwise. Still though it was really cool to see what they looked like on with the camera flash. Next time I want to try some of their darker lenses because they will probably work better with my dark eyes.
I would have to say all in all that I was pretty surprised by how much I liked these. They were comfortable and easy to wear. Plus they gave me a cool anime look!

Jacksonville Tattoo Convention

One of the only pictures I found of me that night 🙂

Recently, I went to the Jacksonville Tattoo Convention for the pin-up
competition and boy was that a treat!
My buddy Lily Lector and I headed up to the entrance which was
littered with men in black shirts smoking. Lily immediately began to
drool proclaiming that she may be getting pregnant tonight while I on
the other hand am getting texts from my man saying “Kane says I smell
like poop.” Excuse me while I pick my panties off the floor…
Now I am use to comic book conventions where they have modern
technology like Square so they can take your money, however tattoo
conventions in Jacksonville do not have that. So I was forced to go over
to the ATM which ended up being convenient since it was next to the
overpriced bar. From the very limited selection I bought a Miller Lite,
or as Lily calls it my soccer mom drink and headed inside the convention
area. Maybe I’m just a bit of a germaphobe but I thought you weren’t
supposed to eat around a sterile environment or drink before you get
tattooed. But, hey, I’m not a tattoo artist.
So we walked around a bit then went to the hotel bar which had the
sweetest little gay bartender in the world who danced around like he was
serving Carol Burnett a cocktail. Now this lovely hotel was serving
doubles for $5 which was probably not a great idea since not only am I a
lightweight but I also had not eaten yet.
This drink of liquid courage was probably not my wisest decision
because when we walked over to the competition a cute blonde in a
leopard dress and flip flops asked if we wanted to enter. I squealed
yes, threw my purse to Shana and filled out the paperwork.
Competition time! Lily went on first and did the robot then I went on
later and shook my tits. The pin-up gods would have been proud. Of
course, I didn’t make it into the finals, which was fine by me, but I
was happy to see my dear girl Lily made the cuts. Now the finals was
where it got interesting because you had to pick the 3 questions they
could ask and of course half were sexual or about drinking. Lily was
asked what her favorite hobby was and she replied that it was drinking
boxed wine. However the young lady dressed as Minnie Mouse replied when
asked “what’s the best gift you’ve ever received from a guy” and she
said “a pearl necklace” with a big wink! I think she needs to date a man
with money so she gets real jewelry. Another girl when asked what her
favorite drink was, replied a BJ….Jacksonville, home of the classiest
pin-up competition in ‘Merica!
Thankfully, my girl Lily at least placed 3rd and as she walked down to
the line of the losers, I gave her a congratulatory humping. Then we
watched the winner in an acrylic corset that had seen better days twerk
on stage. ‘MERICA!

Waist Training: Latex Corset vs Steel Boned Corset

Steel Boned Corset

Steel Boned Corset

Latex corset

Latex corset

Lately Candy and I have been getting a lot of women coming into Three Muses Clothing asking about latex corsets. So we decided to do some research to help people differentiate between the latex corsets and steel boned corsets.

First of all what is a latex corset ? A latex corset is not actually a corset, but kind of like a fancy pair of Spanx with several sets of hook and eyes down the center. It has a latex core with a cotton exterior and interior lining. Some also come with plastic boning down the sides to act as anchors and to keep the corset from rolling up. They either come in a waist cincher style or a vest and can be called “waist training corset vest” or a “workout corset.” The theory behind the workout corsets is that they work by stimulating thermal activity and ramps up perspiration which supposedly helps eliminate localized and stored fat. Much like getting a wrap at the spa or what the wrestlers wore in high school to quickly meet weight limits. The vests are supposed to reposition fat and water weight so that eventually you cannot store fat in your abdomen any more.

Now, what are steel boned waist training corsets? They are corsets that go around the waist, under the bust and have steel front busks and lace in the back. The key to their shaping power is steel boning. The steel allows the corsets to be cinched in while also keeping their shape. The point of steel boned waist training is that as you slowly tighten the laces, it contorts your ribcage to the shape of the corset.

So what’s the difference between the two types? First off the latex corset is not a real corset. A true corset has boning and laces in the back. Secondly, there is no proof that the latex corsets actually cause a permanent change in your shape like the steel boned corsets. The steel boned corset moves your free floating ribs and changes your actually physical shape over time. They both give you an instant slimmer shape, but the latex corsets can still give you bulges in the back and side because the fabric and boning are not sturdy enough to hold you all in. When it comes to fat displacement I have seen it happen while wearing a corset both on clients and myself. With the latex corsets I can see the same thing happening because when I got liposuction back in high school (I was on a dance team where we constantly wore spandex) I had to get something similar to keep my skin against my body and to keep the leftover fat smooth. Another difference is that they have latex corsets for working out while it is usually recommended to workout with out your corset on so you can strengthen the abdomen muscles which are not used as much due to the steel boning supporting you.

I hope this has helped you decide which type of corset training you would be interested in. I personally love steel boned waist training because it helps my posture, cuts down on the amount I can eat, and is super sexy 😉

Birthday with the Spanx from Hell

My birthday is coming up so I thought I would take the time to write about a couple of memorable birthday experiences. The first one up is my first birthday working at Three Muses Clothing. Now this is a two part story.
I have to admit that my birthday always seems to hit during the perfect time of year, May 21st. There is always tons of stuff to do! On this particular birthday there was a Drive-In Movie convention and a rockabilly concert right down the road. So Candy, Bridget, and I decided to dress up as Zombie prom queens! I made a cute classic horror dress, zombie waist cincher, and painted white streaks in my hair ala Frankie Stein!
Our first stop on our day of birthday adventure was the sci-fi convention…which was absolutely dead!!!! And they had Sid Haig and Pam Grier! I have to admit it was kind of nice because we got to talk to the celebrities and I even made Sid Haig laugh. Score 1 for the birthday girl! After wondering around for a bit we headed to the hotel bar to meet our buddy Dementia Grimm. Now something you should know about us is that we always have a drink, of the adult kind, with us and we had been enjoying them for a bit now. And said beverages go quickly through the system especially when you have a corset, fishnets, stockings and spanx. I was sitting at the bar gabbing away when all of a sudden I had to piss like noooo tomorrowwww!!!! I ran to the bathroom with the girls and quickly realized that it was probably not a good idea to wear a corset over my spanx that were pulled up to my bra. Not even the Hulk could have pulled my damn spanx down! All I could think to do was tell Candy to get her husband’s knife. She ran out of the bathroom giggling while I did the greatest pee dance of my life. As soon as she came back I grabbed the knife and slit the crotch of my spanx open. Luckily, I did not cut my lady parts. When I gave her husband back his knife he told me to never mention this again…he says that a lot to me.
So after that bit of fun it was time to grab a bite to eat at Chicago Pizza. As soon as the hostess saw us in our zombie finest she quickly took us to the back room where an incredibly handsome waiter covered in tattoos met us. After he took our order, Pat (Bridget’s husband) decided that he would give me a birthday gift aka a date with the waiter. So when the waiter came back Pat drunkenly told him that I was single and that I looked good. I guess Pat’s matchmaking skills worked because as I was going to the bathroom to check on a puking Candy he gave me his number.
After Candy was able to loosen her grip on the toilet, her and her husband went home while Pat, Bridget and I headed to the concert. We hung out for a bit watching the show and Pat piggy back ride on a stranger through a fountain before we decided to head a goth club. Apparently, Pat was feeling good about his matchmaking skills and decided to set me up with an actor friend.
Now here is a little tip for all you single guys out there; “DON’T TALK ABOUT ANOTHER GIRLS’ BOOBS!!!” And, that is exactly what this Prince Charming decided to do. The only good part about this mini date was when Pat was talking to us, stood up all of a sudden, exclaimed “Oh, I farted.” then walked off. Happy birthday to me…

Stay tuned for next time when I talk about my date with the waiter!ImageImage

Wonder Woman is for Everyone!

Plus Size Wonder WomanRecently Candy and I got to participate in Jacksonville’s One Spark which was an event where people voted for businesses to get crowd funded for new equipment. For us it was an opportunity to get our name out there showcasing our costumes and beautiful steel boned corsets. Everyday we would dress up and walk around the festival handing out business cards. On Saturday we decided to dress up as superheros and I chose classic Wonder Woman.

In case you don’t know what our awesome classic Wonder Woman costume looks like that we make at Three Muses Clothing, it is a steel boned satin corset that takes your tummy in and makes your boobs look like muffins about to pop out of the oven. Then I had the star print boy shorts, Wonderous cape, lasso, tiara, cuffs, and of course dance tights that make my legs look like they actually do squats. Now you think with this sexy as hell costume I would be on Cloud 9 of positive body image…but I wasn’t.
Part of my problem was that I actually grew up in Jacksonville. Throughout school I was constantly teased for being fat and ugly. Even after I moved back here and I did my first event for Three Muses I had someone tell me I look like a chubby Wonder Woman.  Now have in mind that it was Mardi Gras and I was not dressed as Wonder Woman what so ever. Thankfully, I had Candy there to tell me that Wonder Woman is hot and to take it as a compliment but….still.

It was about the 8th or 9th time that I adjusted my costume in front of the mirrors in the dressing room at Grease Rags that I came to the realization that while I don’t look like Wonder Woman (5’3”, overweight, and arthritic) I still had to be Wonder Woman for all the other women and girls out there who don’t look like her either. If I took the costume off or looked uncomfortable I was telling everyone that only tall and skinny woman can cosplay as Wonder Woman. Plus, in the way of sizes, I wear a size 12 which is smaller than the average of woman who shops in our shop which is a 16-18. For me to say, “I’m too fat to cosplay” is a huge slap in the face to those women who are bigger than me and are embracing their curves. Which, by the way, I hate those girls who put on a string bikini then complain about being fat. It makes me want to hit them with my meaty paw.

So with a renewed sense of confidence I adjusted my tiara and walked outside. Just like Wonder Woman, I held my head high. While my biggest battle that day wasn’t with Cheetah, I do think I beat up my toughest critic: myself.

Experiences Waist Training

Plus Size Ariel

Example of the steel boned waist cincher I wear for waist training.

Now that we know what corset I wear and what waist training is I will tell you guys about my experiences so far.

The first week or two I just laced my corset with a light lacing that just took me in about 3” but made it so that I could get used to having something around my waist. My back pain immediately went away and my posture would have shamed Miss America. I didn’t really sleep in it yet because I was still getting used to having something tight around my waist. Just recently I’ve started wearing it to bed on a regular basis but that’s because I started tight lacing. I find that tight lacing (which for me is generally 4-6”) is better for sleeping in bed because if you move around while you sleep your body doesn’t twist in different directions which can be a bit painful.

I personally love being tight laced! It relieves any back pain and pushes my boobies up as well. When I take it off I find that I am still holding my stomach in and standing up straight. Of course, when I take it off I can see the where the corset was indenting my skin but that goes away after about 15-20 minutes. If you wear a tank top or cami underneath it helps eliminate some of the skin impressions and helps keep your corset clean.

As I’m sure you’ve been wondering now, “Can anyone tell that you have it on” and the answer is no. Unless I wear it on top of a dress or with a cute button up. Usually I wear it with a tee and jeans like in the pic. As you can see from the pic, its not very noticeable at all if even. I had one customer come in with his wife and they were looking at the corsets wondering if they could breathe or even be comfortable. FYI: I walk up and down the stairs in them no problem and I have asthma. I told them they were great and the guy said “Yeah, I’m sure your not wearing one!” with which I lifted my shirt to show him. Best foot in the mouth ever!!!! The one I typically wear has a front busk with hooks but we will be soon offering a nude waist cincher with no front busk and a side zipper for the more form fitting clothes.

As for the corset affecting my eating I’ve noticed a change recently when I started tight lacing. Now I did not get this physique but leaving food on my plate. I love to eat as my pant size will gladly show you. However, since I started tight lacing I don’t eat as much. Partly because my body can’t take in as much. I was at a mexican restaurant recently with my friends and I only ate half my meal! Half! Even if I have it lightly laced I find that having it around my waist is a constant reminder to eat less or better.

So what has all this training gotten me ( I know its only been a month but still)? Well I went from a 37” waist and a 2X corset down to an XL and a 36” waist! Also, I’m exercising more now too because you have to strengthen your back muscles so that they don’t become weak from the corset doing all the work holding you up. After I do back rows and Supermans (they are a back exercise) I keep working out because I’m in there and might as well go for it. Also when I work out I do not wear my corset. I like to be able to move about and I feel that a corset tight laced will inhibit my ability to do crunches and my back exercises.

Thanks for stopping by! Next time I will discuss what to do to clean your corset and sizing. Til then keep lacing 🙂

Waist Training- My Beginning

Waist Training

Waist Training after 1 Month

My gut has been my big problem area my whole life. I hate how it presses against my jeans then flips my waistband down or makes my shirts look like I’m trying to steal a watermelon from a grocery store. I’ve done the damn Spanx thing before but by the end of the night they would be half rolled down. I hate my gut so much that I even had liposuction done when I was 18 to try to get rid of it. It wasn’t until I started working at Three Muses Clothing and Candy Keane strapped me into one that I ever looked at my waist as feminine and sexy.

Since I started working at the store 3 years ago I have accumulated around 15 steel boned waist cinchers, corsets, underbust corsets and waspies that I wear at every party and convention we go to. I lace myself in and instantly I’m a 50’s era pin up with the wasp waist! It’s a fabulous look and feeling! Even though I wear them out all the time I never wore them religiously until about a month ago,mid October 2013.

For about a year now we have had women of all sizes, and I do mean all sizes, from a XXS-7X come in for waist training. My first thoughts were, go to the gym, but it wasn’t until a great customer of ours named Theresa came in about 6 months ago to start waist training that I took it seriously. With in 6 months of starting she went from a 2x to a L by just wearing her corset! I was shocked! Her waist is the perfect hour glass that I have been struggling for for years! It was seeing her amazing new body that led to me taking the plunge.

So at this point you may be asking “What the hell is waist training?” Waist training is basically wearing a steel boned corset or waist cincher 23 hours a day for a year. The idea is that as you tight lace it the three free floating ribs that you have at the bottom of your ribcage slowly get pushed in to give you an hourglass shape. While, there are lots of info out there on it I thought I would give my honest opinion and experience of what I’ve been doing.

I started a month ago using the black satin waist cincher from Three Muses Clothing which is what I am wearing underneath my Three Muses shirt.

What’s great about this corset is that it has spiral steel boning in it. The boning looks like a slinky laid out flat which means you can move in it easier but the steel keeps it shape and keeps you in. You never want to try to use a plastic boned corset for waist training because after one or two wears it starts to conform to your body. Especially if you’re plus size.

Now we have found that the material does stretch about an 1” but when it stretches it helps create a more defined hourglass shape. As long as you have the steel boning the corset will do its job.

Another thing I love about these particular corset is that they are laced bi-directionally. This means that there is a set of laces for the top and a set for the bottom that meet in the middle. This style of lacing allows you to easily adjust the top and bottom yet get the tightest cinch in the middle which is exactly where we want it. Then with the excess laces you just tuck them either up the middle of your corset back under the back panel.

Tomorrow I will post about my experience thus far and give some useful tips for starting. Thanks for reading my future laced up friends 🙂
